RIGGINS, Idaho -- Authorities in Idaho County are searching for a hiker who has been missing for a week in the Hells Canyon area.
Todd Hofflander, 39, of Riggins, was hiking in the Windy Saddle area of Hells Canyon with a friend on September 27.
The pair split up after agreeing to meet at an area cabin that afternoon. Hofflander did not arrive at the cabin by the following afternoon, so his friend went looking for him. When he didn’t find him, he called Idaho County Dispatch.
Numerous agencies have joined the search for Hofflander including the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho County Search and
Rescue, the Idaho County Sheriff’s Posse, Idaho Fish and Game and the U.S. Forest Service.
Helicopters, dog teams, horseback riders , ATV riders and thermal imaging equipment have also been deployed in the search.
Hofflander is described as an experienced woodsman and the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office says Hofflander was prepared for an overnight outing with food, water and a sleeping bag.
He was last seen wearing a green T-shirt, blue baseball cap and a camo backpack. His 3-year-old dog Ruby, a small female black lab, was with him when he went missing.
